Dr. Kathleen Akers

Dr. Kathleen Akers is a well-respected dentist throughout the community. She attended Vanderbilt University and subsequently graduated with a B.A. in Economics. While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Akers was a valuable member of the Vanderbilt Dance Team. She was also admitted to the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority as well as esteemed honor societies, such as Omicron Delta Epsilon. On top of all this, she also made the Dean’s List and served in the Student Government. One of the highlights of her time at Vanderbilt was the time she spent studying abroad in Italy. With these immaculate credentials, she was admitted to Creighton University’s Dental School.

During her time at Creighton, she worked as a teaching assistant, helping in both Periodontics and Endodontics. In addition, she also worked with the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Furthermore, she became a published researcher, publishing a research article on the regeneration of fibroblasts in the human oral cavity. In addition, she also received an award for her outstanding work in Periodontics, made the Dean’s List, and served as a delegate to the Interprofessional Education for Health Professions Collaborative Care Conference. She even received an Idaho State Grant during her time at Creighton.

After her time at Creighton, Dr. Akers earned a certificate in Periodontics, which is a Masters of Science, from the University of Texas at Houston. While working on her periodontics training, she also ran a clinical trial on dental implants. This research has been incredibly valuable and has been presented multiple times at conferences and lectures throughout the state. Dr. Akers became board-certified in the field of periodontics.

After completing her training, Dr. Akers knew that she wanted to be a practicing dentist. Since 2006, she has been working as a dentist in the state of Texas. She has maintained her certifications and holds permits for anesthesia using nitrous oxide for both enteral and parenteral use. In addition, she serves as a diplomat to the American Academy of Periodontology in addition to holding memberships with both the Southwest Society of Periodontists as well as the Greater Houston Society of Periodontists. Finally, she knows where her roots are and is a member of the American Dental Association.
